Default Need help quick...Smoke from Intake

Just finished replacing the main bearings and tried to start it up. Engine puffs smoke from intake tube but will not start. Already checked firing order any other suggestions? Setup is in the link in my sig. Thanks in advance

That was my first call also. I have checked and rechecked the timing, it is correct. When we first started cranking the car it turned over for about 10 seconds the there was a pop followed by smoke from the intake. Now when you try and crank it it puffs smoke from the intake with every stroke.

Im sure it makes a grunting/moan sound after you let off the key then smoke comes out...I had the same problem with my b18c...turns out it was the module going out on my distributer...replaced it and it was fine...

No noises at all other than the first pop followed by a large puff of smoke which I am assuming was a backfire. Now as I crank it I get puffs of faint smoke from the intake pipe. I have yet to start the car cause I am not sure what the problem is, trying to be safe rather than sorry. The only thing I have noticed is the cam gears were off by 1 tooth, could this be the problem? I just did not think 1 tooth would cause such severe problems.

I have established the exhaust cam is off by 1 tooth. I have tried and tried and cannot get it on. I have adjustable gears, can I make the adjustment there to make up for this?

Yes, if your cam is off by one tooth, its a problem...You need to fix that now...

I just did the timing belt about 20 times with the same result everytime. I have to rotate the crank about 1-2 teeth past tdc to get the cAm gears to line up. At tdc the exhaust gear is facing down by 1 tooth. I have followed STEP BY STEP from helms how to do it and have also changed timing belts before but wtf I CAN'T GET IT????
