Default need help. no start issue

1991 civic hatchback si

previous condition...

sometimes wouldn't start. Car would die if below quarter tank of gas. Car would stall or die if I turned right quickly but not left at around half tank sometimes.

current condition...

Car will not start. I took the fuel pump out and hooked it up to a 12v supply and the pump kicks on normally everytime. no weird sounds. seems to operate fine. I hooked up a test light to the terminals that connect to the fuel pump. No voltage. I checked the harness plug under the seat for voltage... none. I installed a new relay that I know works. I checked the alternator/fuelpump fuse and it is good.

What should I check now? Im thinking about replacing the ignition and maybe checking and cleaning the ground wire that connects to the thermostat housing on the engine. has anyone had a similar problem and may have an idea of whats wrong?

When the car stalls out with low fuel the first thing to do is hook up a fuel pressure tester with the gauge pointed through the windshield so you can view it while driving..you can just lay the hood on it. How does the fuel sock/strainer look ? The ecu tells the fuel pump to turn on through the main relay.

Well. It's not running now so I couldn't do that with a fuel pressure tester now, good tip. I should have done that!

I'm going to proceed to install a new fuel pump even though I think this one is good. When I pulled it the stock strainer wasn't attached to the pump. It may be in the tank?

If my fuse and relay is good, do you think maybe my ignition is bad? Any way to test that with a test light?

You can use this site to help test the ignition system/main relay.

Had a similar problem recently. Ended up being the ignition coil. When it was cold it would read correct voltage but we warmed it up in a buddys engine bay by holding it near header and read it again and the voltage was sporatic. Try replacing ignition coil and lmk if that works. Advance auto will let you return it if you find that wasn't the issue. Just don't tell em you installed and keep receipt. My car was broke down for 3 days in a best buy parking lot a few weeks back. It sucked but once I replaced coil it started right up and has been strong since. Hope that helps!
