Fuel pump issue?

Fuel pump issue?
Ok so my 1994 eg sedan did not want to start this morning and it did have a working battery an gas so my cousin bangedvthe gas tank and it started then stopped he said its probly the fuel pump could that be it?

the tapping on the car probably didn't do anything. when you turn your key to on do you hear the fuel pump whine and prime? have your cousin stick his ear on the back seat while you turn the key to on listen for it. don't start the car just turn the key to the position before. if it doesn't make a sound then it's possible that either your main relay is bad or you have a bad fuel pump. if it does prime then trouble shoot check your spark, timing and compression. Start here when the engine won't start:
1) Turn the key to ON(II) and listen for whether the fuel pump primes for 2 seconds. Also check whether the CEL remains on steady or tuns off after 2 seconds.
2) Check for spark. Click spark link in my signature.
