I know this has been discussed plenty of times. I searched and all I did was get confused reading every post about engine break in. There are 2 many different opinions. Some people say don't let the motor idle long and then some people say they let it idle 20-30 mins before they drive it. I will be installing my motor this sunday. The shop that put together my block together recommended I use a 50w oil and he said not to get non detergent. He is the first I ever heard recomend a 50 w oil. I was going to pick up some Accel 30w non det oil from Walmart ($.74 a quart) or some napa 30w non det, but not sure now.

This is how I was gonna break it in:
1. use 30w non det oil
2. let idle and check everything out for the first 15-20 mins
3. drive for 20 miles staying under 3500-4000
4. then change oil
5. put back in some 30w
6. drive it for 100 miles doing some part throttle pulls to like 5k and let the motor slow down the car
7. change oil this time with some cheap 10w30
8. normal driving for the next 400 miles with no vtec
9. change oil again with 10w30
10. so now with 500 miles or so on the motor drive it like I stole it
11. change oil @ 1000 to synthetic mobil1 10w30 as long as comp test looks good
12. engine break in done

please coment or correct me on anything I shouldn't do or post if this is totaly wrong and how I should do it.

damn i dont think you need to change the oil that much
just keep it below vtec for the first 150 miles and dont cruise...dont keep the engine at a constant rpm keep changing engine speed every minute or so to break the rings in properly. you should bring car into vtec at least once during break in just to see if its working properly but only after about 150miles. then you can change the oil after 500 miles when the car is broken in. also during oil change check to see if you have any metal shavings
