NEED HELP!!! ENGINE!!!
My motor goes crazy when I floor it. It's a 5 spd Accord with a 97 vtec f22 motor. I took out the motor, replaced the tranny, and put it back in. It started up fine. Idled like a dream, but when I took it for a test drive, the motor struggled REALLY BAD! It wasn't just a suttle shut off, the whole car jerks rigorously. Check engine light turns on every time the motor jerks or ... the motor jerks every time the check engine light turns on. I checked spark plug chambers for water. none ... checked distributor and coil connections, looked normal ... checked fuel pump, worked ... I have no idea what it could be ... Someone help ...
If your car started then obviously your looking in the wrong spot! This is only when you set off to put the car in motion? You have tranny fuluid in there right? I know, dumb question.... but you would be suprised

I'm on my friend's account because I'm still a trial member, but ... the problem about CEL check is ... at startup, my CEL has to be on. The CEL light only flashes when the problem occurs ... i.e. when my motor cuts off/ studders/ jerks. I'm going to get it diagnosed soon ... I'll update the situation when I get it done. Thanks for your help.
Yeah it sounds like a wiring problem if your only getting a CEL flash when the motor jerks or whatever. Unless the power is disconnected from the ecu the ecu will hold whatever codes your throwing, until the ecu is reset. So if you seeing the CEL flash and the ecu is not saving the code, then its probably a problem with your wiring (loose, cut, shorting out), or its a bad ecu. Good luck with the fix!!
And i was just saying that if you can do somthing as hard as tranny swapping then i would figure checking ecu codes would be second nature.

please dont confuse the CEL with the little led on the ecu.
the CEL is on your dash. when it is on, its telling you to check the led on the ecu.
find your ecu and read the code from the flashing led.

woha woha woha
not all hondas have a light on the ecu, in fact ive never seen a 92+ honda with led's on the ecu. its all done by jumping the service switch and counting the blinks.
the code will be stored in the ECU so you can still get the code it has thrown from before even if the light isnt on at the moment.

First thing that comes to mind is to check your valve timing....I've gotten a tooth off before and the car would idle fine but fall on its face whenever I gave it more than like 10% throttle.

I believe you are wrong, kamin corrected you though. What your talking about was on honda ecu's prior to '92.

If the ecu will remember my previous cel moments, i will check it again. The car is being taken to a mechanic as i type this reply, but a crappy mechanic, and i hate it when someone else feels on my car. In any case, thanks, i'll see what i come up with.
