NEED HELP ASAP NO COMPRESSION!!!
Posting for a friend
I just finished putting the head on, cams, timing belt on a 95 GSR motor. Set the mark on the bottom pulley well the gear behind it with the mark on the block, turned it till it was at TDC than put the cams at the UP on both sides matching the little marks between the gears level across the block, put the belt on made sure nothing is moving, than turned it a few times checked it looks ok timing same, took a compression tester, didn't even read??? WTF is going on? I need help ASAP I took the timing belt off a few times realigned it everytime same thing?? Am I doign something wrong?
Am I on the wrong stroke or something? I turned it 360 and put the timing belt on again and still nothign?
please help if you can N11 is this week

Make sure the guage is good to start. The only thing i can think of if you arent reading any compression is that something is wrong and the valves are not seating. We had the exact problem with a friends car that had fresh valves... the valve job was **** and they would not seat.
Hey I'm the guy with the motor my account is messed up so I couldn't post anyways....
K I took off the cams again and tested the compression there is compression not much but I am turning it over with a wrench so whatever there is some. SOO that says to me that the cam timing is off, my prob is I did it to the book 5 or more times, can someone do a run down on the order of doing this for a 95 GSR to make sure I am doing this wright? I need to get this motor in and running by friday so I can go to N11 or I'm pulling a over nighter to get it done.
Thanks
mike

Did you adjust your valves after you got everything together?
You did try the compression test with the starter when it was all together right?
The two cams gears in the up posistion with the cam gear marks facing eachother. The crank keyway is facing up and the line on the timing belt gear is inline with the arrow (facing down) on the oil pump.
Valves should be adjusted to .012 on the intake side and .016 on the exaust side. Don't quote me on the numbers exactlly, just going from memory.

Have not adjusted the valves yet, as for starting the motor is still on the gayrodge floor sitting beside my b16 I just pulled out. I'm planning on putting it in tonight regardless and hooking everything up I'll play with the timing belt when the motor is in the car, just worries my that they might have messed up the valve job oh well
Sounds almost like you're setting the piston to Bottom Dead Center. Drop a long 3/8" extension in cylinder number one spark plug hole, turn crank til extension reaches TDC.
*Valves out of adjustment will NOT cause the compression gauge to register "0 psi".

If just one valve is open a little bit on compression stroke it could read 0. Especially if he is cranking it over by hand on the garage floor.

I didn't read that he was cranking by hand, but even so, I doubt it's valve adjustment.
Why don't you turn the crank one full turn with the timing set the way you have now, if it spins freely, then use the starter to check compression?

Ok this is what I'm going to do put the motor into the car and than use the starter after I get everything all attached. I had the #1 at TDC I used the dip stick to judge when it was all the way up. So when it was up and matching the line on the oil pump to the block I then put the cams in the up position then lined up the marks and checked compression from there, does that sounds right or am I going mad? is there another way of putting the belt on to insure or to check that I have it right? Should it line up when I turn it 360 deg?
note still at work but will be trying this out when I get home midnight

Oh, I thought the motor was already in the car. Try pouring 1tsp of oil in each cylinder, then bolt flywheel on, bolt trans on, install starter, then jump starter with a 12v battery to check compression.
Im betting the problem is cam timing. On my JDM GSR when I Put my CTR cam in it, everything was dead on. I put it all back together, then tried to start it. No start, I check the compression and it was 50 lbs across. I check the timing once again and it was off. I retimed it and bam fired right up.
It turns out it was the valve latch oh well fixed it now the motors leaking coolent from the back of the motor and the clutch is dead, NOT happy, have to pull the motor again, REALLY pissed!!! oh well I"ll just smash something with a hammer and move on.
thanks for you help guys
