Need help asap...
My integra is having the motor rebuilt, so in the meantime I bought a 1994 Honda Accord EX w/ an automatic transmission for a beater. A while back (when it was cold) i was having trouble getting the car out of park into drive???....Warmer weather came and I have had no probs. at all. Car has been running perfect. Tonight i get in it and all it does is click (does not think about turning over). When I turned the key, the lights for "park" and "drive" light up simultaneously?? So i move the auto shifter up and down in different gears and still nothing. So, I go and swap the battery for a new one, put the battery in the car, and now when i turn over the key, i cant get the car out of park at all and now it doesnt even click?? After all this said my question is this:
Does this car think it is in drive somehow?
Does an auto shifter work electronically or mechanically?
If it works electronically, could the contacts be bad or need cleaning?
Or is it the starter???
Im clueless w/ this one. Any help is appreciated

There is a sliding switch in the shifter console that lights the PRND1D2 etc lights and also controls the starter interrupt. The car will not start unless in P or N. Maybe the switch is too dirty or fubared. Check there first. As for the shifter lock, the brake needs to be pressed to release it. I'm not sure if it's a solenoid or cable arrangement that controls it. As a last resort, there is a key slot next to the shifter that will release it if you insert any key into it.
