need engine opinions...
so i just fell into a nice lump of money...
im looking at around $5000 to spend on my engine...
i have a few options, and i'd really like to hear your opinions on what i can/should do. i know alot, but its always nice to hear what other ideas are out there...
my initial idea is to go with a b18c5. 200hp all motor, simple stuff and i'm at 180 to the wheels. that would be lovely...
180hp in a del sol (2301 lbs.) should be good for low 14's, right?
now, my other option is this... wait a month or two, while working comission at an electronics store over christmas... save $3000...
i think with $8000 i can swap a k20 into my car... i'd like to go for the type s, 220hp, with simple bolt ons, im at 200whp all motor...
thats good for 13's with a shitty driver...
***important***
my biggest concern is reliability. this will be my daily driver. i put ALOT of miles on my car.... maybe 50 a day.. and 150 or so maybe once or twice a week going to my gf's college to see her.
i drive 80mph or so for decent lengths at a time on the parkway (yay nj
) and i like to rev my car up often and get away from traffic.
in a lack of terms... i drive it hard. not stupid, but hard.

, and to ensure reliablilty, don't over rev it like everyone else. Those are mean motors with a few bolt ons.</TD></TR></TABLE>
see, thats what i was thinking.. i have a goal of 13.9. i would LOVE to be able to run 13's on street tires. just to be able to play with evo/sti/5.0 etc.
i'd retain the stock ecu settings, stock rev limit...
however, i dont know how much they cost... nearly everything is custom, so im scared i'll find hidden costs that pop up and **** me down the road 1/2way through the swap....

Save your money and get a 4-Door GSR. Then work with that - throw a turbo kit on it and you'll be peachy. Your girlfriend will appreciate the back seat. I know Jackson (well.) and I know there are plenty of dark dirt roads to utilize this aspect of advanced automobile technology. Remember, its not just how fast you go, its how you get there.
But hey, that's just my opinion.

haha. no need to do it in a car when you have a perfectly good dorm.
she loves the sol, i thnk she'd be disappointed if i got rid of it for a teg.
where in nj are you from?

Having a CRX never stopped me, yay reclining seats. Turbo is a very good option too. 13's would be pretty easy. I still don't know what everyones obsession is with 4 door GSRs though. meh.

i agree with you there. i thought you'd appreciate the power produced by it though, didn't know you were going for that much reliability. If you go with your all-motor setup and put a non-stock motor in your car, I think it'd be difficult to estimate how reliable it would be (as an everyday driver.) It might be absolutely wonderful and everything you dreamed possible. Or it could bring up problems with your suspension due to weight differences from the stock drivetrain, or any other things. I suppose what I mean is, the car will never be more reliable than it is with the stock drivetrain. It's just up to you which is more important, instant speed or reliability. I have a long trip to and from college, and you have a trip to and from your gf's college. Can you live with the increased risk of being stuck on the side of the road between those places? I personally don't feel like making a call n trying to fix the situation I'm in because I decided to put a sweet engine in my car. Call me paranoid, but I know I have a point.
I liked the idea of the gsr for ya because it's quick in a stock setup. some bolt-ons can give you extra power at a minimal loss of reliability. that's the reason i got mine

theres a differnece. i would like a stock swap more or less... swap in a stock engine with bolt ons.
thats what i consider dead reliable.
a turbo b16 pushing 10psi = not relaible. especially when driving 50 miles at a constant 3200rpm.
