n00b question...
I thought I was burning some oil, even though I have great compression and no blue smoke. I checked the level this morning, and it was about 3/4 full, even though I topped it up yesterday
However, I drive it around for 10 minutes, and hit VTEC a few times, and came home. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, and when I checked it again, it was up to the bottom of the full mark. So which reading do I go by? The dead-cold-in-the-morning reading or after driving and letting it sit for 10 minutes or so?

I usually check mine after the car has been sitting for a while. I thought mine was a quart low after I did my swap after driving it for a day. I put another quart in it and checked it and it was way to high. Just make sure the car has sat long enough for the oil to drain down out of the head into the oil pan.
I would also like to find out which way would be the proper way, people tell me so many different things. As of now I start it up and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes then I check it.
should the owners manual have some info on this.
Anyways, I always chack when the engine is "stone cold". That way, almost all the engine oil has drained into the oil pan and it gives you an acurate way of knowing the oil level.

Yeah, but if I fill it "stone cold" then chances are it'll be too full when I check after I drive the car and let it sit for 10 minutes. I think I'll just keep it 3/4 full.
within the fill lines is all that's required. Obviously, you'll want to add a little if your riding just above the fill line. But you don't need to take it all the way to the max line.

I would assume that the extra oil in the crankcase would help keep the oil pump pickup happy, however? So it IS necessary for, say, an autoX day?
