Default Are My Rings Blown?

I tried to start a fresh ls/vtec motor the other day and I was having problems with it idling to 3k rmps immediatly. The motor had 0 miles on it and I revved it to 3k rmps for at least 60 seconds. I fixed the idle problem but im now blowing white smote out the exhaust (alot!) when i hit the gas. Compression reads
255 /255/ 260 /270. I took the headers off and oily **** is leaking out of the engine down in to the headers. After this i pulled the head off and i could see oil on top of the pistons. I tried using a new headgasket and put it back together but its still smoking. My rings are gone right?

What was the reason for the new motor? What happened to the old engine?

check your oil, see what color it is, yes, white smote is burning coolant.

Water vapour can cause white smote, but I guess in your case it will be coolant leak. Faulty head gasket or a cracked cylinder head are usually the cause, if there is no external coolant leaks.

If your rings are gona, you will see blue smote as it will burn oil.

You could leakdown test your motor... and it should be able to tell you everything.. My guess to is the headgasket... Sometimes after rebuilds the car will puff white smote for a bit but don't let 20min of that have you already convinced that the headgasket is bad.... I don't know how long you've let the motor already run but if not longer than a few days i really wouldn't worry about it.. If it's been longer than that, then look into testing it further..... With the leakdown test take off the radiator cap... When you apply the leadkdown pressure to a cylinder and it causes coolant to bubble up, that will normally indicate a bad headgasket..... If you get air coming through you breather on the top of you valvecover then there is most likely something wrong with your rings.. Again I don't really think it's that... You C/R #'s seem fairly straight and if you aren't making a bluish tinted smote then you're probably fine... Did you use copper sealant on the headgasket?? Good Luck

I havent run this motor for more than 20 mins its totally brand new. It doesnt smote if i let it idle, only when i blip the throttle a huge cloud will shoot out. There are no leaks on the outside of the head. The only thing that makes me think its the rings is when i took the header off there is oily stuff dripping out from the head into the header. No I didnt use copper sealant on the headgasket. Where can i get a leakdown tester?

if you have oil in the header and the exhaust ports of the head, its most likely a ring. pull the spark plugs and look at them. oily residue or heavy black soot is oil and that means the rings are gone. you should check your coolant level to be sure but the white smote is really probably white with a blue tint which is oil. the people who told you coolant needed to read your whole post about oil in the header. the headgasket is ok by your compression numbers by the way. you are running about 11.5:1 compression roughly correct? as long as compression numbers dont vary by +/- 20 your headgasket is ok.

If there is oil in the exhaust ports and the engine is burning oil, I would be leaning towards the valve seals are bad. I would think if it is burning oil and it was just the rings most of the oil would be burned and you would not see much actual liquid oil in the ports. If the exhaust valve seals are leaking and are the cause of the engine burning oil im sure you would see oil in the ports.
