My engine seems really hot!
I have an N/A LS in my car and it seems to feel very hot me even though I it doesnt overheat at all and runs fine with no problems! Any way I changed the thermostat to a 160 degree thermostat instead of the factory 185. The motor still seems to run just as hot. Now I do not have a thermometer or temp gun so I am unsure what the exact temp is.
So I am wondering if there is anything I can do to get my engine to run cooler?

Dude my motor is the same way, I never bothered with the thermostat or anything. It didnt seem like it ran that hot until i built it.
Does your motor have forged internals?? If so i wouldnt worry to much about it, I'm not. I think its partly my imagination.
Sorry if i was not help whatsoever.

No, my pistons and rods are OEM Honda PR4 Rods and P30 Pistons! You may be right, it could just be my imagination, but it just seems hotter since it was built compared to stock!
I have uberdata buthave not gotten it setup for my car yet. Still waiting to find a cheap laptop!
I am looking for ways to cool down the engine as well, any ideas?
Possibly a bigger radiator(already have a Del Sol dual core)?
Redline Water Wetter?
Lower temp fan switch(already have 160 degree thermostat)?
Oil Cooler?
Is there a radiator off of a V8 that will work on my EG Hatch so it doesnt cost $300 for a bigger radiator?

Im not sure, I guess I would try to figure out what the exact temp is first, but you probably already thought of that. my civic gauge reads exactly in the middle which is about 180-185 from the reading on the laptop. try to borrow a latop. I got an HP Pavailion for sale. $800 bucks, P4 2.8 1.0GB of memory. on a side note. I put a drop of soft soap (liquid) in my radiator after full. It acts as a water weter
Sorry I cant spend $800 on a laptop, I am looking for a cheap Pentium 2 or equivalant! All I need it for is datalogging!
My temp guage reads right below the halfway mark and never overheats or anything, but yet the motor seems realy hot compared to when it was stock! Also I do not have a heatshield on my JDM ITR exhaust manifold! Could that have something to do with it? Am I feeling the heat from the exhaust mani since there is nothing there to absorb the heat?
I need some way to measure the temp in my engine bay. I have mercury thermometers(very accurate), i wonder if I should one to measure the temp.
Am I going crazy?

Yer prolly going crazy, Mines also reads same temp on the gauge as before.

Are there benefits to getting th engine to run cooler though?
Like using an oil cooler and/or oil additives that claim to lower oil temps?
Bigger Radiator and Water Wetter?

maybe on your application its ok because u dont have v-tec, but for DOHC vtec cars those colder thermos can cause problems with v-tec engaging on dynos and stuff. (strictly from what i read on here, no personal experience.)

Never heard of that, b/c I knoww ppl that use the Mugen and Spoon thermo and they are 160 degrees.
Also Vtec runs on oil pressure and when the engine is cold(startup) Vtec wont engage b/c there is not enough oil pressure built up! I have had experience where Vtec wont engage on my old motor b/c oil levels were too low, so in turn I lost oil pressure.

my ran real hot as well i am now using an integra full lentgh rad and a 175 deg fail safe thermostat as well as a b18c1gsr water pump and the water pump made a huge difference
also i picked up a spal rad fan that made a huge difference as well

I wonder if a heat shield on my exhaust manifold would cut down engine bay temps, since the heat shield would absorb some of heat. Also I thought about using some water wetter to lower coolant temps to help lower engine temps too.
exhaust manifolds put out a lot of heat. I bet that is why you think it is hotter. Put a heatshield on there there will be a big difference. You do not want the car to run too cold the oil needs to a certain temperature so it is the right viscosity and will last longer. The car will also be more efficient at normal operating temperature around 200 degrees.

I wonder if I can just fabricate a heatshield of my own that is aluminium or stainless steel or should I just buy one of the ones for the JDM ITR exhaust manifold.

pick one up from your local junkyard for ten bucks and see what happens.
If you're engine still seems to be running "hot" buy a lower temp fan switch.
Or get some exhaust wrap...

I have a JDM ITR exhaust manifold, so i do not think a regular one will fit!

just get a switch and hook it up to your radiator and just leave it on all the till the end of time until u stop driving it. just remember to turn it off when u leave the car for a longtime, also make sure when someone drives your car to remind them to turn it off when they leave it or they will be mad...grrrr...at you.

Yeah i know v-tec runs on oil pressure, but for some reason I was thinking that it runs requires operating temp too. You may be right though im not entirly sure.
A long time ago i remember reading a couple threads about thermostats causing problems running too cold, but i couldn't see that happening so it may have been bs.

You could probably fabricate some ducting to run fresh air into the engine bay aswell as a heat shield. Keeping the air circulated can help too I would think. I am considering rigging something up as well. The air that comes around the radiator is warm, so that **** doesnt count.

Yes if the engine gets too cold then oil pressure will drop! I used to have a problem on my old motor with a thermostat that stayed open all the time and when I gunned it the temp gage would drop all the way back to cold!
