Is my engine going to blow?
I just bought a new car with a JDM GSR which is running lean. It has white spark plugs plus the fuel pressure regulator says it's at 30psi. After I turn it up to the appropriate 38-42 psi, is my car safe? Or do I still need to tune it properly before I drive it hard and hit Vtec. Thanks
First off, why is the fuel pressure at 30psi? Is it stock?
Turning the pressure up to where you need to be would help I would think, I guess you could try it, then read the plugs.

Like I said I just bought the car, so I don't know why the pressure was so low. The engine is a stock gsr, in an ek with the aftermarket FPR guage in the engine bay so I can take a look.
So your saying after I turn it up, it's still a good idea to tune it? Tuitions a bitch, so I only want to pay for tuning if it's neccisary.

I guess I might be questioning why it's running lean in the first place if it's a stock motor.
Extra tuning is just a precaution more than anything to make sure your AFR's are at an acceptable level. Like I said though, you could read the plugs after you turn it up and see what they look like.

I'm with ****** on this one, the biggest thing you need to worry about is why it'd running lean... If you've got a bitched fuel pump then just replace it and don't worry about tuning it.
Does the car have an adjustable FPR? you keep making mention of turning it up... if so yes please turn the fuel pressure up. and after doing so you will not ned to tune as the injectors themselves have a pulse rate that is pre-determined by the ecu.

Yah the car did come with an adjustable FPR and guage, I turned it up to 42psi. The car now runs way better. It's completely smooth with no jerking when accelerating. I'm convinced the last owner had no idea what he was doing and thats why it was at 30psi.
Considering the car is running better and the it should be running rich if anything, I probably wont tune for now. Thanks for the responses

no prob man.
The guy might have leaned it out under the impression that it would gain horsepower. usually when tuning people will pull fuel away from an all motor car until it stops making power, but as you lean the mixture usually the engine will make a bit more power.
