I have a 94 civic cx with stock brakes . swapped b16 engine.

I ve flushed the brakes with brand new fluid starting PR, DF, DR, PF

I did it with a one man bleeder kit which ive used in the past with no problem.

my problem is after the flush with engine on the pedel goes down 3 inches before firming up. but tjhe pedal never touches the floor it just goes down far. with engine off if i pump it a few times the pedal is rock hard?

anyone know what the problem might be??? thanks

try bleeding the brakes with the car off or it might be your brake booster is going out that what it sounds like to me

Brakes will always be hard if you pump it when the car is off cuz you have no vacum. Bleed them when the car is off and it should be fine, it suppose to go down. You dont want it that hard anyways. As long as it doesnt touch the floor or comes close to it, its cool

i did bleed the brakes with the car off.

the pedal goes half way down from the resting /starting position before it gets firm.. compared to other civics i dont think this is normal.

Have you checked your brake fluid lately? Maybe you have a leak somewhere. Most of the time when you pump the pedal and it gets hard means you have a leak in the line and its letting air in. Other than that i would see if the rear brakes are adjusted properly and then maybe check the brake booster.

my brake fluid does not go down its always the same.

how do i know if my brake booster is going bad ? is there a testing procedure?

get 4 clamps....clamp off each brake line about 2 inches from where it enters the caliper/wheels cylinder...then try pumping the pedal,it should be hard,if its soft it is your master cylinder...from there take one clamp off at a time...if u take a clamp off and it gets softer,there is a problem with that wheels brakes.


to test your vac booster...when the car is off,press the brake intil it is hard,when it is hard,keep your foot pressing down on the brake,turn the car on and the brake pedal should go down,then your booster is good and working properly

i wouldnt use that method, that could collapse the hose.

yeah withthe car off and get the brake pedal very hard then when i turn the ignition on it gets soft.. ill try bleeding the brakes again..

i was taught that method when i was in school to be a tech...you should go..then you will find out it wont callapse a hose...
