Mugen chiped ecu w/ ctr cams help
I have a first gen B16a with I/H/E, mild P&P head w/ Spoon 2ply head gasket, CTR cams w/ ITR Springs and retainers, OBX cam gears, stock intake manifold w/ B16A2 TB, full MSD ign., and a Mugen chipped PR3.
The problem is that the vtec kicks at 4700. Some people say that the CTR cams make more power when the vtec kicks at around 5100-5300. Is that true. Have not dyno the car yet because I am woundering if I need a vtec controller.
Please help
DNR Performance in Hayward Cali. Base run $85 or 1 hour tuning $150.

wow, compression increase to 11.5-12 would really help with mugen. i had that program but changed vtec-xover to 5k which was TOO HIGH.at least on my motor i would have been happiest with a 4.7k x-over...
Personally I don't like Mugen programs or Spoon... I've seen them both and I think that they bog the motor because they just open up too soon.. I chipped my friend CRX/GSR with a PYR program and it just sucked *** all the way through even tho i've heard of a lot of people that like that program. Then later i swapped that for a Spoon. The VTEC is at 4500 which is too low for his motor which is just a GSR with a first gen B16 head... entirely stock. I had to swap his bottom end out cuz his B16's got fucked up when the thrust washer fell out and chipped the pistons, dinged the rods and crank, and scratched up the block. **** Hondamotorsonline. I really wouldn't recommend any program that has it's VTEC anywhere under 5000 especially if you are running a CTR cam. I would look for something around 5500. Let us know how it works
