Default MTF or oil?

Please solve this once and for all...

Everyone keeps talking about how great Honda MTF is. But I've had everybody tell me to use plain old motor oil in cable-type transmissions.

WHICH IS CORRECT??

honda mtf is superior to motor oil regardless of which type of honda manual... add half a quart of lucas oil stabilizer to honda mtf and see how beautiful shifting can be...

I went to 2 different Honda dealerships. They both told me to use 2 3/4 quarts or regular old 10W 30 in the tranny.

before honda sold mtf, it recommended 10w30 oil in its manual trannies, THEN they came out with the MTF, which has friction modifiers and other additives that make it superior to regular motor oil...

Friction modifiers, I don't like the sound of that. I feel bad enough for my syncros with my crappy shifting, I don't want to put more friction on them.

I'd imagine the friction modifiers are there to REDUCE friction not increase it.

Honda MTF is way better. My brother's Si tranny was grinding with regular oil after his ZC swap. I then put in Honda MTF, and it stoped grinding completely.
Believe us when we say Honda MTF is da shiznit.
It's really common sense. Motor oil in a tranny, or tranny oil in a tranny.
Hummm... let me think about that???

honda mtf, all the way. there is now doubt that it improves shifting. most dealerships, however, will use and recommend standard oil unlesss you start having problems with your transmission, then they immediately use/recommend honda mtf.

synchros need friction to work, if you put some magic oil in your tranny that made everything frictionless, all your synchros would immediately stop working. the friction modifiers in honda mtf are there to assure that the synchros have the exact right amount of friction needed to do their job the best. no more friction, no less.

apparently the friction modifiers ARE there to ADD friction.

I sit corrected.

I gotta try this cuz my tranny shifts like *** even after i went to mobile 1 (which did improve it from before (normal oil))

Well I must say after changing to Honda MTF...

It didn't make much difference. Hahaha, oh well, at least I know I've got the right stuff in there now!

if you don't really have any problems with your transmission, you aren't really going to notice much difference except under heavy shifting. however, it'll protect your tranny really well and will keep the synchros performing at their best, which in turn will protect everything else.

you might also want to try GM synchromesh. some have said it has cleared their grinding problems.....

i have tried it and honestly cannot tell a difference between honda mtf and the GM.

honda mtf=$4.89/qt

GM synchromesh=$3.50/qt
