Default MSD problems......

I recently put a 6A MSD with blaster2 coil and pro cap on my girl's 96 civic with a B18b engine. yesterday it didnt want to turn on anymore. I checked everything, and the problem was that the cap had built up carbon deposits or whatever you call them. The msd has only been there for about 3 weeks, and the cap looks like if it's been on a car for 100,000 miles! After I cleaned the brass points the car turned on and ran fine. Could the MSD kit be the culprit??

thanks in advance..
Alex

OEM honda ignitions are good to around 300HP... A lot of people find the MSD boxes to be a pain in the ***.

Doens't sound like anything an MSD ignition would do.

do you have spark? Do you have 12volts to the coil? Do you have good grounds?

ya I checked all that... Everything seemed fine. Someone told me that if moisture gets inside the cap, buildup occurs. Is this true?

So you do have spark? Then it's not the MSD.

Maybe your ICM took a $hit.

My brother had a similar problem, 99' LS low miles. he bought one of those clear caps, you know the ones were you can see the spark coming from the rotor? well after changing it out a short wail later the car ran like crap and the cap and rotor were corroded BAD. the car was under warranty and for some reason the dealer agreed to change the cap, rotor and wires to the oem ones. problem solved. so i don't know what it is for sure. I installed a digital 6 on a 2nd gen B16 with a blaster2 coil. No problems what so ever! used the msd distributor cap after 20,000+ REAL HARD miles it still ran like new.

Oh, it must be the cap then cuz the car has the MSD clear red pro cap. Maybe they come defective or something... The problem started right after I put the MSD and Cap, so I guess it's most likely not the module.

Thanks to all of you for your responses!
