Default MSD 2 step...anyone have experience with this?

I tried to do a search, but didn't find anything. I'm just curious as to who uses this and how you like it. I plan on getting a MSD 6AL and want to know if a 2 step has any advantages or disadvantages. I'm still new to the game, but would like to learn as much as I can. In the future I would like to drag race and auto-x. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i havent personally used 2 step but i know a drag car who uses it.... it seems like a really sweet thing... get like a 4500RPM pill put it in then floor the car and the car will only rev to 4500 then you can drop the clutch and then press this button turning the 4500 rev limit off and then the car will function normally..

seems like a good idea for drag racing

Both of the MSD 2-step & 3-step modules will always have some type of advantage. There are many uses for these units, but the most common usage for these modules are to control or limit RPM. For instance a 2-step maybe used to limit what burnout RPM, and launching RPM. Another example on a 3-step could a combination of what I mentioned for the 2-step as well as controlling the engine RPM. Your average street/strip car will almost never use a 3-step setup. You may want to check out te new MSD Digital 6 unit for your car. It gives you not only a 2-step feature but the main RPM control, and a Retard Feature for all you forced inducted Hondas. Not to mention an all digital ignition box. Several draw backs to keep in mind before you invest in this Ingition Box. If you still have a factory rev-limiter, you can only lower your RPM, so it maybe a good idea to have the factory one removed or raised even higher for double protection. Another downside would that in order to take advantage of the MSD's sparking capabilities, it is best to also purchase an MSD coil ( i.e. Blaster SS or HVC) and a modified a MSD distributor cap. I've seen many factory coils burnout because the ignition box was too strong for the factory one. One last thing, the Digital 6 is going for about $475 alone, ouch!!! Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I should have mentioned that if I do get the 2 step, I will upgrade my distributor cap, get a coil, etc. This is in my long list of mods that I plan to do in the near future. I just need to start saving up now.
