Is this guy crazy or is there some truth to what he is saying. He told me that if i put around 12 mothballs in my gas tank(which im not going to do) and let them disolve over night that it will boost the HP to 110+. I am calling bullshit on this one and just wanted to check and make sure that he is crazy and not I
Dont do it. It's BS.
Instead tell him that you did just what he said and tell him that you can feel the difference and that you picked up 2 tenths in the quarter or something. Basically tell him some story so that he will do it to his own car.

I got holes in my intake manifold where I put empty whip cream cans. I have them hooked up to a remote so whenever I need an extra 5hp, I just hit the button. Ghetto Nawwwwwzzzz yo.

That's just like dumping naphthalene (aromatic hydrocarbon-two benzene rings) in your tank. I would be curious to find out the science behind the idea. FYI. Toluene is just a methylated benzene.
Man, I ran a NOS system on my Integra... 150-shot direct-port setup that shot right into my helmet. Whenever I activated it, WOW did it feel like I was going fast

stupid AP chemistry
Actually I've seen this used in little mopeds and motor scooters in Hong Kong. But then again, I don't know what kind of fuel they run in those little engines. There was a semi-documentary on transportation in HK and this was a topic that was covered. It was supposed to increase HP and fuel efficiency and everyone swears by it.
I still doubt it will work for our engines tho.
Yeah i heard about it too, they used to put them into the gas tank on old MKII Ford Escorts (RWD)....dont know if made any difference, but they would hardly have kept doing it if it didnt???
It doesn't increase power, it increases octaine, and it was used in the pre catalytic converter days. Don't know what it will do to a cat or 02 sensor these days however. I'm just old enought to remember using it to reduce engine knock on a pre-emission high compression engine years ago when High octaine leaded fuel was phased out. in the days before 104+ came out. late 70's early 80's. Do remember it being hard on brass fuel system components if memory serves me right.

hehe, so basically there is some truth to it, but overall its bs like i thought, and not good in general
Using moth ***** is an old hot rodding trick. The mothballs have to be made of naphthalene. Some moth ***** now in days are made of paradichlorobenzene and i don't know if it works the same as naphthalene. Heres a link i found interesting though relating to octane boosters.

Yeah, I remember heard of it in a website else where as well, sound like the truth but I wouldn't do it in my car. Now adays the engines are so delicate that you can mess with all the sensors or seals without knowning about it.
