Missing Valve
hi, i have a 93 teg Ls, and heres my problem, my car wont start, the motor runs only if i keep the gas floored, and theres a loud ticking sound. i did a compression test. 1=150 2=150 3=145 4=0, and i popped the valve cover off, and on the intake cam, the second from last on the distributer side the valve is missing, im thinking that it fell into the cylander. but how could this happed? and what do you think i would need to do? to get it back running. TIA
thanks for the reply, but what should i look for when i pull the head? what do i need to pay attention to? is there a chance that the cyl. walls are scratched or scoored? thanks agian
If the valve is gone, then most likely the piston is destroyed, the head is destroyed, the block is destroyed. Only thing salvagable from that engine is probably going to be the crank, cams, and 3 pistons. Metal is probably already in the pan and killing the bearings and pump.
thanks for the replys, im going to remove the head sometime next week. what if the valve is stll hanging there but i just cant see it? cant really explain it. then would just the piston and what parts in the head would be ruined? thanks
