Default mini-me questions

aiite heres the deal I already did searchs and no helpful info came up. I just want to know what specific parts I need. How to install these parts like the ecu vtec hookup. D16Y7 block. I'm going to the junkyard soon to get this stuff so I hope everyone will be helpful enough for the info!

First tell us what your setup is gonna be. What (everything, motor wise) exactly are you putting in your engine bay?

Okay. So do you already have the Y7 block in the car?

If not, go to this website address to see how to install the 6g motor. (Y7 same as Y8 pretty much)

http://www.geocities.com/bing_bong916/vtec.html

If you already have that block in the car, don't worry about the link.

The Y8 head is very similar to the Y7, except it has vtec obviously. Things you WILL need for the Y8 head to be installed on the Y7 block:
Y8 headgasket
Y8 timing belt

Don't use the Y7 cam gear on the Y8, It will fit, but the timing will be off. You will need to use Y8 spark plugs & wires as well.... But the headswap itself is really easy, just take off the old head, and put the new one on, (with the new headgasket & t-belt of course) you can also reuse the head bolts.

I would also need to intake manifold right? And how would I wire the vtec. I need the Y8 ecu corrrect? Wouldnt this throw my timing off too? How would I fix that?

Okay, I didn't see what car you have! = me!

You don't need that website link. With the Y8 head, it MUST have the VTEC solenoid! You can wire up the VTEC with the Y8 ECU, but you'll have to modify your wiring harness to put in these additional wires to connect to the VTEC solenoid. (ie oil pressure sensor [2 pins] and vtec engagement wire[1 pin]). That's only 3 extra wires, I'm not sure which pins these wires go into on the ECU tho...

Also, you don't need the entire Y8 manifold... But if you can find one, you might as well get it because it has a little more flow than the Y7 intake manifold. Whichever manifold you use, MUST have the Y8 FPR installed! The Y7 FPR is set for a lower operating fuel pressure than the Y8 is.

Let's make a parts list you need for the swap:
Y8 head (complete, must use Y8 cam gear)
Y8 ECU
Y8 FPR (fuel pressure regulator, it's on the fuel rail)
Y8 Headgasket (Y7 will work, but you should get a new one)
Y8 Timing belt

That's about it.... oh yeah, and a little bit of extra wire for the vtec wiring. I don't know how to wire up vtec on a 6g ECU, maybe someone else has a write-up on this?

If you use the Y8 cam gear, your timing will be right on.
