Default vtec head or just the whole block????

what would be a better way to go????should i just get a sohc vtec head and put it onto my dx? or would it be less of a hassle to just get the entire block? i beat my car on the regular, but i do the maintinence regulary( dont have the money to afford for the motor to **** up).
any input would help alot.

Remember that most rice boys think that VTEC adds 100HP. It doesn't. The issue that maters in the case of small displacement motors is compression ratio. Raising the compression ratio alone a few tenths of a point in a non-VTEC cars can do wonders. Check the specs on the 2 motors you are considering pay close attention.

Installing either a Z6 head, or a Y8 head onto the Dx motor WILL increase the compression ratio, along with the addition of VTEC.
