mini me problems
before the swap my car ran a 15.7 on the stock motor w/ intake, exaust and adj fpr. we did the swap and it runs in the 16's now. wtf went wrong? somtimes it shuts off after i drive it fora little bit, rpms somtimes drop. i have a 88 d16a6 block w/ a 93 d16z6 head. i used a summit rpm activated switch to activate vtec, i have a light and i thave it set right, but im not sure its really engaging. i used the crx intake manifold and a pacesetter header for the d16a6. also have a adj cam gear, but we tuned it to perfection. its set at the 6 mark, so 12* of timing...that seemed to work the best. fuel pressure is at 48. its got good low end torque, i could feel the difference, but there is NOO power top end, what could cause this!!!
thanks

It sounds like your still not getting VTEC. I switched/flipped all the dip switchs over in my Sumitt yada yada, and then I heard a cluncking/clicking sound. I took that to be the switch activating... Might try that on yours, and see if you hear anything.
Probably already heard this, but without the P28 ECU and it's timming maps, more soooo then the fuel. It does hurt overall performance... hehehe
Just a thought...

is that rpm switch the kind that provides a ground at the desired rpm? my msd rpm switch provides a ground for a 12v relay, in turn, the relay is now powered and sends 12v to the soleniod....what you should do is splice a 12v lite temporarily into the vtec soleniod wire put it under you windshield wiper so you can see it from the cockpit and drive- JUST to see if the soleniod is getting power @ the desired rpm. with one terminal grounded and the other connected to the soleniod, it should lite up when you hit the rpm you have the rpm switch set to...
yeah we have it going through a 12v relay, its the same setup as yours im guessing. my battery died, the damn thing wont even start now lol...damn this honda...i have a light on my dash tapped to the wire goin to the vtec solenoid...i dont know what else to do now...your in ocean city? thats only about an hour from me. i live near medford/marlton area.

I have the answer you seek, but you aint gonna like it.
The 92-95 sohc vtec heads have the cam cut 20 degrees different than 88-91 or 96-01. The slot for your distibutor is where the problem lies. It is what is about 20 dgrees off. Tune your cam gear like 13 degrees and it'll improve your cam timing but make your ignition timing ****. You need at least a cam from a 96-up vtec. That will enable you to get the cam timing AND the ignition timing both right at the same time. The 92-95 heads have different rocker arm geometery though so it will either offerm ore or less lift and duration than its supposed too.
Have fun. Look at the bright side. You met someone who already knows.
