Default Micropolishing crank

Anyone ever do this themselves? What all is involved and what kind of steps do I take to perform this work? Also what products do I use?
I've heard of people using shoe laces?

Honda cranks come micro polished and nitrate coated. If you do this you will have to re nitrate the crank.

Costly mistake....don't do it.
No. Completely false.

93LSivic: take to a machine shop and have it done there.

Yep, micropolishing is done at a machine shop. I paid $35.00 for the last crank I had polished.

Thanks all Another ?

Im kinda torn between using Rockets ACL bearings or going with the factory ones. I have crower rods that use a #3 bearing, which is basically the middle of the road for factory bearing sizes--so that'll be good for the rods.
Now, I read that Rocket suggests the crank get micropolished to run the ACL's. Do you think I will be ok using those bearings. I know all about using the plastigauge when checking clearances and all, but I dont wanna have to buy a shitload of factory bearings since they cost a lot.

Any help with this is appreciated!!

bearings arent numbered, they are colored. GREEN is the middle.
you combine #3 and the letter on the crank to get the bearing color code.

#3 could produce yellow green brown or black. If you want to use the ACL
bearings, thats fine, just be sure that your clearances are correct.

Sorry I should have specified further. For the rods--again crower's use a 3, on my crank I have stamped B,B,B,B cylinders 1-4. So the Helms would call for all Green on the con's.
Stamped on the crank for the mains I have 2,2,3,1,2 going from the front cap (pulley side) to the rear cap (flywheel). On the block it has CCBBC stamped. But Im not sure which mains those refer to---does it go from pulley to fly, or flywheel to pulley? If it goes from pulley to fly then it would be Green, Green, Green, Pink, Green.

Now, considering I have the crank micropolished how much material is gonna be taken off? Enough to throw me into the next color bearings?
I really want to use the ACL for price and ease of availablity, ie Rocket or Earl.

polishing wont remove much material, its negligable.
give the ACLs a try, see where they come out to and go from there

Isn't micropolishing and knife-edging usually done on cranks that are actually in a windage (crank in the oil) situation? The Honda cranks don't have the same situation. I'm starting to stretch my knowledge here...
