Default metallic VS. ceramic catalytic converters

for a boosted motor, are metallic cats able handle richer AFR's or will they die out like ceramic ones, is it worth spending the extra cash for em. and are they good for aircare/ smog test.
i am looking at the VIBRANT ones, i dont think magnaflow makes em. TIA
