Default Mazda Millenia knock sensor, need some help

yeah this isnt a honda but its still the best forum to get answers... I have a 98' mazda millenia, just got the knock sensor replaced for a total of $500 (parts were only $120). Well after all is said and done the code cannot be cleared with a OBD2 scanner. the place I took the car to said I need to use some special "star" system (that only dealers have) to fix the problem. So i call the dealer and they dont know what im talking about. anyone have any ideas?

Souds to me like the problem isn't really fixed, and when you DO clear the code it comes right back. (That doesn't mean the code wasn't actually cleared.)

Besides that, disconnecting the battery should force a complete ECU reset on just about any car.

Wiring problems between the knock sensor & the ECU? Some cars the exact orientation of the knock sensor matters a lot.

Disclaimer... I don't actually own any Mazdas.

this is F***ing lame! they gave me a print out of the thing and it said for knock sensors on 98' to 02' millenias sometimes water can get inside reducing the Ohms which it would have been 56kohn and it was about 32kohm so yeah another $92 down the drain to fix it. god i hope this is all... no one has any other ideas on how to reset this? I should have bought a honda

So the shop won't give you any relief based on it wasn't your fault? Does water get in there from some manufacturing defect? Bad seals on the sensor? Warranty from the parts vendor??

Or does the water get into the wiring harness of the car? Maybe then you could do something to seal it better...

I guess I'm full of ideas & not much real help.
