Default map sensor question?

i'm getting a map cel whenever i got above 5500 rpm's (roughly). i have a turbo ls/vtec and i first thought it was my stock map sensor that was causing this because of the high boost, but now i'm not sure. i turned the boost down to 6psi and it still threw the code. the code goes off when you reset the ecu. what are the possible causes for this?

reset the ecu, and if not, test the map sensor

what would cause a map sensor cel, other than pushing boost beyond it's capability to read?? and if the sensor was bad, wouldn't the cel come on the whole time, not just during high rpm's??
