Ls/Vtec Rods???
building up an lsvtec motor and have run into a problem with the rods. I'm for sure going with the CTR pistons, but i'm not sure wich rods would be best. I was planning on going with scat rods vrs the stock ls shotpeened and balanced rods , but my machine shop says the rods would have to be opened up to fit the CTR wrist pins, thus throwing the rods off balance since they come balanced already. He sed he can do it but hed rather not. Are there any other options for rods for this setup? or should i just go with the stock rods shot peened balanced and arp bolts?
know your machine shop first
if he told you that dont do it with him
cause he has no experience at all on this type of work
I made the mistake
rebuilding my b17a with ctr using stock rods
the machine shop told me they couldnt do it but me
beign so stupid returned and they said they will give it a try
everything looked good but after a couple of miles the engine started
smoking.
had to do a tear down again and found that the wrist pin had came
loose and grinded the cylinder wall.
so advice to you is to find a machine shop that has done this type of work
and knows what they are doing.
and balanced means that all 4 rods weigh the same.
so ask around for a machine shop that has done this..

yeah maybe it was that he was concerned about i'm not really sure since i'm not the actual person communicating with the machine shop guy. My brother is handling the communication since he has an account with the machine shop. And by all means i trust the machine shop, the do good work and know wut they are doing. They have built numerous LSvtec, only difference is all used aftermarket pistons. So my problem is realy coming form the FACTORY CTR pistons, which i'm determined to stick to cuz with the rest of my build up i just can't afford aftermarket pistons. If my only option is aftermarket pistons i'm gonna hold off and use a B20 block. So i'm still looking for anyother options in the rods. I just want something strong and compatible with the CTR pistons. All opinions are welcome and appreciated.

i had the same problem, but ended up gettin the ls rods shotpeened and using arp rod bolts.... i rev to 8500+ and haven't had any problems.
i was tryin to do it on a budget too, but if i was to do it again i would probably use aftermarket rods and pistons.. maybe next time.
