Default ls/vtec question

I am going to be doing the ls/vtec and I was wondering which head would be better for the conversion? I had plans of boosting it in the future. I was thinking about the b16a2 head but i want to know if that is a good choice.

the b16 has a little bigger chamber then the gsr
b16 42.cc
gsr 41.6cc
beside the chamber there pretty much the same head
either one is fine try not to get a itr head honda does a half *** bowl blend
done at that factorythat probley does more damage then good
plus the extra cost it isn't worth it

what ever trans you use try to get an lsd

Yeah the GSR would be hydo. Thats the trany that I'm running and I think that it runs awsome. If your going to boost the car later on then go with the GSR cams. Don't go with anything expensive because people have made 600HP on those cams. Also, if you can then go with the GSR head, but if its compression that your after then go with the B16. It doesn't really matter which one. LS/V is the way to go man. I think that were the true purists in the honda-acura world. We take what we have and make something bad-***. People who spend the 5K on a type-r motor or 4k on the GSR are either lucky people that find one for cheaper, or people that are building a car for all show and no show. LS/V all the way. Cheaper then a Type-R and more powerful.

b16 for turbo and Gsr for and all motor setup. the Gsr heads have welded combustion chamber witch is better for allmotor. the b16 head is the same cast as the ITR ones but unported to its a better fresher start.

I have run a built a few LsV's myself.

I am going to use the b16a2 head with gsr cams but should i use stock gsr cams tho. Do I have to do anything to make the gsr trans work with the ls block?

the trans will bolt up with the ls block with no problems.... as for your ls/vtec why not just jump it up a notch for b20 vtec?? since your still in the process of this setup.. probably just spend $100 more or a b20 block.. also when you do this setup dont half *** it...

install..

gsr/itr/b16 oil pump on the ls block...

Get ARP head bolts or GSR head bolts(i used the gsr head bolts on mine)

Go ahead and change out all your seals while you have it all apart..
crank seal, cam seal, rear main seal, and cam cap seal.

man good luck on your build.. if you have any questions pm away.

The B20 crank isn't nearly as strong as the LS. Theres to much friction that takes place at higher RPM's.

I am not going to build this build half ***. I am going to try to do it right. I am looking to build this motor then put it down in a 92 and up hatch. I want a 12 sec hatch that is my goal with the ls/vtec. I got a lot of work to do to make it run that.

true but i haven't had any problems with my crank yet after getting it remicro polished, balanced and knife edge'd... i'm reving to 9k almost everyday.. at least once haha.. but lsvtec b20vtec theres no wrong way both makes power but i'm kinda happier with the b20vtec after leaving lsvtec..

the B20 blocks are no good when compared to an LS. Why, because the b20's sleeves are only 7mm thick and the Ls's are 9mm. the b20 will be a weaker setup when turbo'ed. If you are going to sleeve the motor than an Ls is gonna be cheaper and easyer to find when looking for a freshie.

if you are limited on funds I have some Ls rods shot-peened, reworked, with ARP studs for sale. I made 430hp 305tq with them. let me know...

I think they're the same crank. The only thing different about the two is the b20 being bigger bore.

92-93 gsr trans would be radical. 94+ hydro would be good too, but personally i'm not into the cable-hydro conversion.

B16 transmissions might be easier to find, but im pretty sure they come from the factory with 3rd gear grinds, and would get worse considering ls/vtec's usually make more torque than 116 ft/lb
