Default ls/vtec pacing the build up

I was just thinking about what engine to put in my 2000 hatch and was reading
up about doing the ls/vtec
The hatch is bone stock. Plan on being a daily driver with maybe 2-3 soloII races.
I dont want to go too crazy but I miss the sounds of vtec.

What I was thinking, is to put in a b18b with type r pistons, water pump and oil
pump in the car now and then over the rest of the winter building the vtec head. Milling it .030", valve job and a slight port and Polish.
I think the reason I am posting this is Im wondering what kind of problems people
have with this setup? Can I run the b18b with type r pistons, water pump and oil
pump for the winter with out any problems?
