ls/vtec red line
I have a jdm b18b bottom end and a jdm b16a2 head!!! If I keep my current rods and pistons I should get 9.8:1 comp, I'm planning on keeping my b18b oil pump and water pump (question of budget) How high should I rev the engine with this set up???
(My search came up with no similar setup)

Re: (daklown)
Ya my current red line is 7200!!! Is it wort getting the pistons off of the jdm b16a2 ( pick it up next week) and putting them on the b18b rods ( should fit but expensive) in order to get comp up enough to rev higher or do I also need to change to oil and water pump to get higher revs?

First off, you should change the oil pump to a vtec on cause the stock LS wasnt meant to supply that much oil. The stock water pump will work as long as you use the LS timing belt. I wouldnt rev it past 7.5 or 8 K cause the rods werent meant to rev that high and tend to break or the bearings give out and spin. The main reason for spun bearings is that the rod bolts are too small, causing the rod bolt stretch, thus loosening the bearings.

Re: (my si is bluer than yours)
Red line depends on your set up. When you put a stock ls block with vtec head not many people know but your suppose to change the rod bolts. ls are not suppose to rev high. And just cause you put your vtec head does not mean its can go higher than 7200. that’s why allot of people blow there block before there head on ls/vtec combinations. Change you rod bolts. I have an ls/vtec with GSR head and ctr pistons and cams. Runs hella strong but I only take it to 8,000 cause I have not done the valve train.
