Ls/Vtec Internal ?'s
What compression will .25 over 00' si pistons give me with a b16 head? What rods do you guys reccomend me getting with these pistons? I know aftermarket rods use a floating pin design so they dont work with eagle rods. What OEM rods will hold up in a high rpm ls/vtec with mabye a 50-75 shot?
all b series rods should hold up if thats all youre gonna run, but with boring it .25 over, your likely to run into gap issues. Go with endyn pistons and rods, cheap price, good quality, and very effective.
i would go p30 pistons. that way you can get some what of higher compresion but still be able to ride on pump gas. pr3 isnt bad. if i were goign to get Pr3 pistons i would get a real spoon gasket to raise the compresion. i have p30's in my lsvtec and they are great. CTR is really high compresion but if you got money for race gas. ahahha

Using stock rods is fine(if you're on a really tight budget), but I would definitely recommend using ARP rod bolts (I found out the hard way
). The stock rod bolts are the weakest part of the rotating assembly and have a tendency to "stretch" under high rpms causing spun bearings (especially in LS/VTECs). Good luck!

P30 pistons or PR3 pistons will work good with an LS/Vtec
I find that CTR pistons are too high cr for daily street driving, keep those for the track. I'd go PR3, they work out very well. I have friends with that same set-up.
If you're doing the buget build but still want to build correctly, using the LS rods is fine. Plan on installing ARP rod bolts and might as well have them shotpeened while you are at it. Oh yea, get the rotating assembly balanced too!

with a ls block punched .25, ls rods, b16 pistons, and a b16 head you will yield 11.7:1 compression
Just a thought.

The best piston for the application are JDM B16 (SiR II) pistons in the LS block. CR will be just under 12:1, perfect for race gas. B16A1 pistons would be second choice, but the CR will be in the low 11:1 range, and as for me, when I had my LS/VTEC, I ran PTC or Civic Type R B16B pistons which were .25 over and a CR at 12.9:1. I had to use 101 octane though, that part sucked. Check my signature for what it got me though. As for heads, GS-R makes the highest CR becuase of the square combustion chamber shape, Type R is next in line, followed by B16, then LS of course. Bigger the bore, more the CR.
