ls help!
My brother in-law has an ls-non vtec and he has a vtec head for it! The engine is sitting in his garage and its basically all take apart! I have quite a bit of knowledge when it comes to honda motors but never put one together! How hard would it be putting it to gether with the vtec head! Should I just leave it non vtec? I have an EF sedan with a single cam non vtec and it has the dpfi intake mani! Is it a lot of work doing the swap to the ls? I would love to put a vtec in it but its not the most important thing as long as I get a dohc! I belive its an 97 or 98 ls. I tried serching in H-T for the non vtec to vtec conversion but came up empty handed. I know there is tons of threads out there but I can never find anything when I use the serch on H-T. Just looking for some comments on wat I should do! Thx in advance.
I dont think you know as much as you think you do. You might want to try searching again. there are literally thousands of threads on this subject
search: lsvtec, ls vtec, lsv, ls-v
search: lsvtec, ls vtec, lsv, ls-v
You can use a ls bottom end with a vtec head. But there is a line mod you need to do it. I cant remember who sells the kit. Its usually around 120bucks for the kit. you can trying typing in the search bar LSVETEC . Hopefully that helps you some.
Im agreeing with srmofo on this one.. You dont know seem to know as much as you think. If your doing it hope you have a good torque wrench. Leave it LS. If you do a LS Vtec your talking running wires and plugging ports on the block making up oil lines and I think its out of your league..Its not for a begginer. I think your out of your league just putting the stock LS together depnding how far apart its taken. Do you know how to plasti-gage? Do you know what your bearing specs are and what color plastigage to get. Do you have a good torque wrench. All I can say is start by building the LS stock get some knowledge we all have to start some where.. but if it gets messed up keep it the cheaper head not the expensive one.
hes got more than head studs .....you need 400-500 hp (depending on setup) to get to the high 10s and thats tough on a SOHC, and impossible on a "STOCK" sohc, and thats not even bringing up the fact that D series transmissions suck at life....
drive over here to reading pa ill introduce you to mike miller who has this car.. TRUST ME... I didnt believe it either until i saw it with my own eyes... dont call me a liar until you fly here and ill prove it to you... ill even ley you stay in my house for a night...
