Default LS -> GS-R / ITR Engine

I'm wondering how much it would cost and what would be the benefit of putting a GS-R or ITR engine into my LS Integra. Would this be a difficult task? Would it be worth the gains? Would doing an LS/VTEC conversion be a better idea on a car with 140,000 miles? Has anybody had first-hand experience with doing any of these swaps?

Thanks,
Ben

If you decide to go LS/VTEC, you should consider rebuilding the bottom end, that's a lot of miles to start with.

Well, what would be cheaper, more reliable, or more cost-effective? Probably just dropping in a stock GS-R engine, right? These came with 170 hp? So that's a stock 28 hp jump over my engine...

Well, if you go LS/VTEC, you're going to need to freshen up the bottom end, and you're probably going to want to purchase a VTEC tranny as well. Search around for prices on labor and parts, then compare that to the price of a GSR motor/tranny, that way you can figure out which is more cost effective.

Search around for prices
Not to sound like a whiney bitch or anything, but the reason I posted this thread was so I wouldn't have to search around. I usually enjoy that, but I'm pretty busy.

The only reason I say search for prices, is because in you're area, the price of labor and parts may be a lot cheaper, or more expensive than in my area. For example, you might be able to find a B16 head on the west coast for cheap, but if you need someone in your town to prep and install it, they might charge you an arm and a leg.

Any idea what the average going rate is for a GS-R engine, for an ITR engine, for the stuff neccessary to put VTEC on an LS engine I already own? And the average labor costs to do the GS-R or ITR conversion, and to do the LSVT conversion? Just national average guesstimates?

Are you just dropping in a B18C/C5 longblock?

That's tough man, I guess everyones town is probably different. Around here, the average complete GSR swap is around 3500, TypeR around 4900. As far as the LS/VTEC conversion, there's crazy competition around here, so it varies, but you get what you pay for, so if someone is offering to do it dirt cheap, be careful, you want it done right the first time. Good luck, later

A full swap GSR with someone to check the motor out and R/R if necessary any components before the swap could run you 5K for the whole job. I wouldnt go
any smaller than 1.8, LS VTEC is a nice dream but to make it work right, you will have to buy everything for it. Importbuilders.com makes them really nice... a full swap to compete with the ITR full swap with about 20 more whp... if you sent them your block as a core you might be in for some money saved.

Both are good ideas. I believe the LS/VTEC will cost more, because if you do that you should build up your bottom end with pistons and rods.

GS-R swaps run anywhere from 3K-4K. It really depends on where you get it from, how many miles are on the motor, etc.

You will have to do research if you are serious about doing a swap or ls/vtec conversion. Good luck!
