Default a little guidance from an expert

just got a zc motor with a broken cam, it doesn't appear to have done any damage to the vavles, pistons, etc. but would appreciate some advice on what to look for, or double check before proceeding with a new cam

Check the cam journals-did the cam sieze in the head? The head may be junk. Cams break for a reason. Oil starvation?

pull the head off, take it to a machine shop, they can magnaflux it and check the head for damage of any sort.

I'll have to agree with this one, I seen an accord one time that had a timing belt break and when I went to repair it I was trying to turn the cam back to the proper postion and It was froze up. Ended up pulling the cam off to find out the cam journals were completely destroyed, Had to buy a new head, Things got really expensive really quick.

if the engine is unassembled you could do a leak down test to see if you have anything leaking, like rings or valves
