list of parts needed when r/r engine
my motor is out. it's in many pieces. the block is off to golden eagle for sleeving, decking, honing. endyn pistons, eagle rods, wiseco rings going in. what throwaway parts do i need to put this thing back together? here's a list i stole from a post on another site. it seems... a bit... long :
i thought it was really just timing belt, gaskets, and various seals. are the water pump, belt tensioner, and bearings really required?!?
head gasket
head bolts (I would replace them)
timing belt
timing belt tensioner
rod bearings
main bearings
main cap bolts
water pump
valve cover gasket
vtec solenoid gasket
intake manifold gaskets
exhaust manifold gasket
oil pan gasket
cam seals
driveshaft seals
oil control orfice o-rings
misc. crush washers around the engine
front and rear main seals

You can buy an entire rebuild kit from Honda that has all the gaskets you need. Depending how many miles your car has you can still use the water pump and bearings. But Im the kind of person that would change out everything.

hmm, so this is a kit like the top end kit, but a bottom end version?

you don't need to replace the main bolts (go ahead w/ the main bearings) but don't forget about the oil pickup gasket (that would suck) everything else you should go ahead and get including the water pump (when it seizes it has the same effect as a broken timming belt) oh and just replace the seal on the balance shaft (assuming you have a f-series or h-series motor) there are no bearings for it.

thanks for the advice! it's an h22, and i coulda sworn i saw bearings on every other balance shaft bore but i guess not!
