Default Lightened flywheel

Taking off the tranny & lightening the flywheel.. is it worth a mild lightening job for a street/strip/autocross car? Would I have to resurface the wheel if I'm reusing the clutch?

totally worth it.....whether your car/engine is stock or modified. do it. you'll reap the benefits of snappy acceleration...and doing this to your stock flywheel is the perfect $$ saving way too. If you get it lightened to right around 12-13lbs..you'll be set. It would be a good idea to get the wheel resurfaced if you plan to put a new clutch on too.

drove an ITR with a JUN in it...all i got to say is that needle went up QUICK! Much quicker than my stock. I'm getting one put in longside a Clutch Masters Stage 4 as soon as I can stack the bills. Then I'll move through the air -> fuel -> suspension -> internals route. Can't wait

peace and respect,
Brian

Hey thanks for the info all. All I can say is it's a b*tch trying to find a machine shop to do this. Finally found one and the guy says he needs specs as to what exactly needs doing - are there pictures available, etc?

But, usually the backside of the flywheel gets shaved down. I dont have pics sorry.

Not trying to be a smart *** but if your machine guy needs specs then you don't have the right machinist. Cutting the flywheel so that it doesn't explode is takes experience. I have civic flywheel that has been lightened and I can take a digital pic for you. If you don't see a pic soon, remind me with a e-mail.
