Default Letting an engine sit on a stand - some ?'s

so i have this z6 i have been trying to work on. its mounted to a stand right now but i havent been able to do anything due to the cold *** weather and the fact my garage isnt heated and insulated.

anyways i drained the oil out about a month ago and its been sitting in the bitter cold of my garage for that time, actually the engine has been out of the donor car now for about 6 months. so would that be bad for the engine at all? i havent cranked it or anything so i dont know if thats a factor. but is there some sort of procedure of care that i should use for the time that the engine is removed?

does that make sense? not sure if that is worded right, any advice would help!

Is it just the block that you have on the stand or the whole motor? IS it dissasembled already?

its just the block and the head everything else is off well the timing belt and cover is still there. all the internals are still untouched.

Well the internals arent really exposed to the elements so it shouldnt be different from having a car sit for months. I'd just cover it up, especially the intake and exhaust ports and wrap it up until you're ready to do something with it.

but what about the oil? should i leave some in there or is it ok with it all drained out?

I don tlive in the cold weather as you, but I would just drain it out so the oil isnt sitting there.

ya be glad you dont live in the same weather, actually my city (Edmonton) is the most northern populated (over a million ppl with surrounding suburbs) city in north america, anything past us is just small cities, hick towns and even further north theres eskimos lol.

but ya the oil has been drained out so it sounds like it should be ok. thanks for the help!

You can just put duct tape over the ports (unless the manifolds are still on) and plug any holes in the valve cover. You don't need to drain the oil, just change it when you install the engine. Take a couple of large plastic garbage bags over the block and loosely tie it on the other end. The bags will fit the whole engine.

there shouldn't be any problems with it. It's the same elements it's exposed to in a car basically.

This just reminded me that i havn't checked the antifreeze in my CRX that's in storage. Crapp, i hope it didn't go bad because it was 8 degrees tonight.
