I have a 92 si and when i start it up white smoke and oily water or something comes out of it and then when i rev it to like between 4000 or 5000 rpms its not real bad but its bad...i was told it could be my valve stems or my head gasket how do you guys feel about it...what is some symptoms and what does it sound like...also could it be piston rings...i have 175.00 and me and my friend will do they labor so while iam in there what should i do???? Thanks Jimmy
white smoke = burning coolant, does the exhaust smell 'sweet?' Try taking off your oil cap look under the cap + into the engine, if its milky, you have a bad headgasket.
blue smoke = burning oil, vavle seals piston rings, etc

Check for water/coolant in the engine oil (you can look at the dipstick). Is their a large amount of moisture escaping the exhaust?
It does sound like a headgasket issue. Check it out immediately before it causes bigger problems.

Ok i just checked and tried to see where the leak is coming from ...
right where the engine code is to the left (to the left side of the head) theres like a little hose and it looks like oil is leaking around from it...or its either the headgasket and i dont know ....when i do a compression test what should the numbers read???? EDIT: how do you do a compression test??
p.s. iam only 15 also
Thanks PPL

White smoke is burning coolant.
Mainly the only possibility of that happening and coolant getting into the combustion chambers is a head gasket not properly installed or bad headgasket.
OR In a worst case scenario is block/head is warped and the headgasket cannot seal it properly.
Replace the Headgasket with a factory 3 layer, making sure it's installed properly, torque the bolts down to spec as stated in a Service Manual, and see if that helps
If that does not seal properly, you may have to get the block decked again, or just get yourself a swap

What part of Tennessee? If you are anywhere Nashville, TN, talk to jdmdxturd or thrustmotorsports.
I'm sure they will hook you up. Tell them I (brandon) sent you
As for compression test, that will do a little on this subject, but in particular will tell you specifically where it is leaking by that 1 cylinder being lower PSI than the others.
Do a compression test and see what the results are.
Good luck.

just read the directions
it should be somehitng in this line
1) pull spark plug out
2) put on compression tester
3) make it so it does not ignite (either ground the ig coil wire or some other ways... dont remember)
4) crank 4 or 5 times
5) the first crank should be something like 50% of the whole compression
6) do this for all
7) each cylinder shouldnt be too different.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!
Me and my friend shawn (22lbgs-r) checked the oil leak....
the oil leak was coming out of the back of the distributor (the black seal)
recently when i bought my new dist. the seal wasnt greased...so we took my dist
off and then greased the seal and problem was solved...THANK YOU ALL MUCH
Notes: i thought i had a leaky headgasket and it turned out to be a seal on the back of my dist.
