Knowing when your motor has had enough.....
I'm buying a 89 SI hatch with 220,000 miles on it and i'm going do do a few things to it.
Possibly the mini-me, or raising the compression with D16A1 pistons.
How do I determine if the motor is still strong enough to hold up to my abuse?
Like, if i took it apart and inspected the block, it's internals or the head what do I look for.
Or is ther any way to determine if there's any problems with the block or head?
I know of compression testing, but how else can I inspect the motor for weaknesses?
Thanks

well, to be on the safe side i'd suggest replacing your engine bearings as well. at 220K, one of them is gonna go soon.
a leakdown test is when compression are in injected into your cylinder and it's checked to see how much is lost and where it's lost.
