Knock on start up
ok.......I get a knock for about 5 seconds on start up (either in the first starting or about 30 mins after it has not run (this being latly)). I dont know if it is somethingloose (i am gonna check everyuthing). I am sure it is coming from th block. Now when I built this block, I decked it .008" and used stock PR3 pistons and USED rings. Also I think the cylinders where a little over spec. The ****** runs NICE...but has tat knock on start up. I am getting ready to drop my ITR bored .25 over but I want to perfect this B16A2 for my EG i am gonna sart building.

sounds like the oil isn't getting through everything quick enough. either that or you are low on oil. my roommates car used to knock on startup every time she started it. after a couple of months she asked me about it and i asked her when she checked her oil last and she couldn't tell me. she was down two quarts. after she filled it up, it didn't knock any more.
rod bearing clearance may be too loose...or not enough oil pressure in combonation with alot of clearance....drop pan and check rod bearings for extreme wear...are you running a 0w oil?..if so..that could be it also.

Some oil filters allow the oil to drain out when the engine is off. It takes a few seconds to refill the filter before oil will start circulating thru the engine. You could try a differint brand of filter, i'd recomend a Honda filter.
thats what I use. I have noticed also that the knocking is doing it more on every startupo then just on cold starts. I switched to 10w30 (regular) and it is getting more consistant. Shoud I go back to 5w30 or should I try synthetic

I have been noticing the same thing upon start up on my JDM ITR engine lately. I am wondering if its the oil pump anyone have any ideas. Oil is up to par just changed it. Using OEM Honda filter and 5w30 Castrol Syntec just changed to that to see if it would help stop the problem. I am thinking bearings or pump.
