i bought my b16 teg a few months ago and ever since i bought it, its had a loud knock. I am not exactly sure what is in the motor but i know it has JE pistons and some other stuff... (my mistake buying a car that i didnt know much about).
The knock is loudest on cold starts. When i start it, it is very loud for about 5 seconds then it gets quieter. But i still hear it when i drive. The knock seems to move with my rpm's... (higher rpms-more rapid knock).
I checked the oil and there was no oil on the dipstick
so i filled it up. But the knock continued. The car leaks oil but i keep up with it. What do you guys thing the problem is? Any suggestions?

....knock knock knocking on heavins door!! yeah, yeah yeah yeah... ok, just kidding. This could be cause from a number of things, i'de start with the bottom end and work my way up.
Is it more of a knocking sound or clicking sound, because my friend told me that i had valve lash and when my car idle's it is a series of quick clicking, also increasing with rpms.
Not to scare you too bad, but my best friend's B16 Si had the same problem. "Why is my car knocking?" It knocked loud at startup then got quiet untill you rev it up, then knocked loud. There was no oil on the dipstick when I checked it. We took the engine apart tonight and it needs rod bearings, and the crank re-surfaced.
EDIT: It also sounded like the sound was from the head, but it can fool you!

you will likely need rod bearings.
very likely
I'm fairly sure it is a bottom end knock, but the sound resonates up and you hear it out the head.
if you have a REALLY long screwdriver put the metal end of it against the block and put the handle to your ear. do that on the block and the head.
then tell us where it is louder

ok i just went and listened... i'm not really sure where its coming from, but it sounds more like its coming from the head but i am uneducated in this kinda stuff
the last time i heard a knocking sound in my last motor it ended up being a spun rod bearing that later shot through the front of my block. so i would drain the oil in your bottom end and check for metal chips it's the easiest way to check your bottom end and eliminate other possilblities.
is it a knocking or a tapping like a diesel motor?
piston slap is common, but it should go away when hot.
abd if its knocking from the bottom end, well...you know
