Default Knock Sensor Question

did search, found out alot. Just trying to narrow down the possibilities if possible.

So as you may have guessed, Im throwing a 23 code (knock sensor) on my ITR. I had a blown head gasket and cracked intake manifold and the car sat for about a month and a half without being driven.

I just recently fixed it, and when i took it for a test drive, code 23 popped up. The car idles like ****, somtimes gets to 500rpm if not less, and feels like it wants to stall. Car feels slugish in low rpm. No smoke out from the exhaust though. Ran a compression test...230 225 215 215. Before the problems with the head gasket it was 230 240 235 230.

I have not tested in VTEC cause i dont want to cause any other problems. I now know that i may have forgot to reconect the knock sensor, or the sensor is bad. however, if those are not the problems what might it be???

I have read that the knock sensor CEL will not go off for sensing knock, but only if the sensor is bad or disconnected...Is this accurate?

I've also read that it could be due to bad gas. The car sat for a month and a half, could that be my problem?

I'm hoping I just forgot to reconnect the sensor.....

As always TIA

Dave

hrmm..
why are you throwing code 23/KS? your car should have that wired up and working, from the factory, if you own a Type-R. Did you happen to disconnect it ? check to see wuts up with it..

I believe the cracked IM is the culprit in your high idle issues.

The i.m. has been replaced with a new one. I may have disconnected the knock sensor when doing the head gasket change. I disconnected so many sensors, i dont remember. I havnt had a chance to check to see if i remembered to plug it in or not, but as soon as I get home I will. The idle is really low, not high also. at idle, it feels like it wants to stall and the car shakes.Im hoping its that i forgot to plug it in again, but i dont remember unplugging that particular sensor. its either that, or maybe....dont really know, the gas thats been sitting there for a month and a half, or maybe i screwed up somthing when i put the timing belt back on...so many possibilities...

If anyone has any ideas, info, advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thx
Dave

The knock sensor was probably damaged or disconnected.

I'd check for the knock sensor and see if everything is good. It's a 1 pin connector and is located near the cylinder head on the back of the block.

Ok....thats what it was precisely. It was still conected to the wire harness, but not to the block. So .....Anyone know what a knock sensor goes for these days???

Thx

About $30-$50 off HT.

They go for about $150 at the Honda dealership.

Most likely the classifieds section or I would throw it up in your signature or a thread in the CLassifieds forum
