heres another question for the high tech mech in here. what are the systoms of a bad knock sensor. what does it do? how can it affect the motor? please any information will be very helpful. thanks.
hey,
im not a high tech know it all mechanic but i have the answer. first off the knock sensor is supposed to listen for knocking and or pinning which the engine will make if the ignition timming is too advance, low octane gas, and or heavy load on the engine goin up hill or jus way too low rpm goin uphill or jus acclerating. the only way that i no of to diagnose a bad knock sensor is, if you hear pinging or knocking, it should immediatly go away. if you hear it for a second or more, i would think the knock sensor is either goin bad or already bad. umm..... basically the knock sensor listens for pinging or knocking which is not good for the engine and tries to fix the problem by retarding ignition timing and or richening or leaning, not sure which one, the air fuel mixture. pinging is not bad as knocking but both are unwanted. thats all i can think of from the top of my head.

does the knock sensor also affects the rpm. with my rpm and ecu it lights up code 23 which is the knock sensor. the knock sensor is install correctly but still it shows up the ecu. with the rpm its up and down.when the motor is warm up. but once you start the car after a while its stays at 600 to 800 perfectly. can a bad knock sensor cause the rpm to act like that??
Here's the quickest way to check if the knock sensor is bad. While the car is running tap on the knock sensor with a wrench or a small rachet; and use a timing light to check if the timing retards. If it doesn't retard you have a bad sensor. It's real easy.
