Default keyless entry module in head unit?

I want to replace my factory head unit on my 99 si with an aftermarket one, but I read somewhere that the keyless entry is integrated with it, is this true?

Yes, you will need to keep your factory head unit behind the dash.

All wiring harness manufacturers sell a "Y" harness to do this. I know the Metra part # is 70-1720T.

If you don't want to wait for your shop to order the Metra "Y" harness, you can get the Metra 70-1721 and 71-1721 harnesses and wire them up with your new deck... Allows the new deck to plug in, and lets the relocated deck plug in too.

I do my own installs - I wonder if cruchfield has the Y harness.

I pulled my OEM HU and my keyless entry still works (99 Si). Go figure...

I thought they stopped integrating the keyless after 1998. 96-98 cars were like that for sure though.

Unplug the radio and try the keyless. It'll take about 5 minutes. Then you'll know for sure

99+ should not do this anymore. unless you have a realy early 99 it shouldnt be in the head. the best way to check is if there is a box ontop of the headunit that looks like it comes out.

This is correct. Had the same issue with my 97ex. Just installed an alarm that worked the locks, problem solved and I got an alarm
