keyless entry module in head unit?

Yes, you will need to keep your factory head unit behind the dash.
All wiring harness manufacturers sell a "Y" harness to do this. I know the Metra part # is 70-1720T.

If you don't want to wait for your shop to order the Metra "Y" harness, you can get the Metra 70-1721 and 71-1721 harnesses and wire them up with your new deck... Allows the new deck to plug in, and lets the relocated deck plug in too.

I thought they stopped integrating the keyless after 1998. 96-98 cars were like that for sure though.

99+ should not do this anymore. unless you have a realy early 99 it shouldnt be in the head. the best way to check is if there is a box ontop of the headunit that looks like it comes out.
