Just swapped JDM S20 Transmission problems :( help?
Hey guy, did a tranny swap on my 1998 honda civic si (d16y8), finished this morning.
1) when the engine is off the gears will go in fine
2) when the car is idling and the clutch is in, the gears are VERY hard to go in.
3) Also at idle, when trying to put the car in to reverse its grates HARD.
The somewhat good:
4) When the car is moving the gears will go in very very smooth, even at 7,000RPM, no grinding, nothing.
5) Dont ever do, but just for the hell of it i tried to see if it would go into first while down shifting, and it went it in fine no problem???

bleed the clutch some more and losen up the clutch master cylinder a little bit it will be fine after that it sounds like it needs a good bleeding thats all.
Did that for the 4th time, an hour ago, same problem........no air in the system.....checked the travel of the slave cylinder and it working fine

Could possibly be that when you installed the clutch, it didnt line up perfectly. Had this happen to me in an Accord. Car would go into gears when the engine is off but wont when the engine is on. It grinds like a biotch when you try to put it into reverse. You should check for loose mounts tranny fluid, etc again just to verify things. But im pretty positive its the clutch that did not line up properly.
