just did swap..overheating
just swapped my b16 from my 93 hatch si..into my 91 crx hf....motor ran fine no problems in the hatch...now in the crx its giving me problems with the temp gauge...just put a brand new thermostat in b/c the old one was shot...the car will run at a normal temp...but at redlights and such it will begin to go up..it wont go up to the redline where the H is..but it will raise above normal...another weird thing is that my fan is hookedup so it runs constantly...so how the motor is even getting close 2 overheating is beyond me...and suggestions?answers?
Did you get the right thermostat they come in temp incraments. sometime when bleeding the coolan you do it wrong and it has air in there and once your stopped the car gets hot and ocne you start moving again its back normal. Also check and see if you hooked the fan up right buddy of mine had it backwards and it spun the opposite way and ran hot when he stopped.
im like 99.9% sure the thermostat is the right one because my friend who got it works over at honda....as far as the bleeding goes i did it more then once..because before i put the new one in..i kept catching those air pockets and it would keep going up in temp...but now i put the new one in...ill check out those other things you mentioned...need to get this problem fixed ASAP before honda day

bardo check for radiator leaks when the car is parked for a while or if you let it warm up in the morning for 10min or so check under the car to see if you find any drips, then when you come by the shop we will try another bleed of the system and make sure that aint the issue. when it gets hotter when u stop its really a minimal issue, try to turn up the HOT air all the way when your stopped and see if it goes down, that would depict a very minor issue.
Maybe the fans are not working. You can check to see if the cooling fan thermo switch is working.Usually has a yellow/green wire and a black wire.On a 93 hatch ,its the wires on the thermostat housing .I think. On a 1stgen B16 , its the big sensor above the oil signal unit.
see thats the REALLY weird thing..the fan is hookedup so it runs constant..as soon as i start the car its hookedup to go on..and it turns off when the car is off...it doesn't go on when the car begins to overheat..so why it would EVER overheat is confusing me
I guess last but not least .The radiator may not be cooling the water enough.I had a jeep that I replaced everything but the radiator. After replacing it ,the jeep ran very cool.

The cooling fan by design pushes the air out of the engine bay to help disipate heat! When you have your fan on going down the road, It is obstructing the incoming air that would normally cool your engine! If you need to, hook up your fan on a switch, so that you only flip it on during red lights or when at a stop. That will solve your problem!

Honda only offers ONE temp rating of thermostats.

are you sure the water temp is getting that hot, cause you said the needle went to the H at temp. your rad. cap would have release the pressure into the reservoir. sounds to me like a bad sending unit and or gauge problem get a laser thermometer and check the temps of the upper and lower hoses.
ya i mixed it half coolant and half water....it never goes to H..the furthest it will raise is right above the picture that is there...thats it...i donno the thing confuses the **** out of me..now it only happens during like heavy stop & go traffic it wont happen while im drivin at a constant speed whcih im guessing is b/c air is constantly going through to cool the engine
