i just got a 86 accord today and i am having some troubles with it for one the altenator (sp?) is goin bad the battery light is on and battery doesnt stay charged is there any tricks to gettin it out easier than what im seeing? and one more thing the idle is surging around 1500-2000 rpms when i come to a stop does anyone have any clues on that ?

if you would have searched, it would have answered your questions.

if the battery dosent stay charged odds are its the battery thats bad, not the alternator. but because the car is so old, take the battery to autozone and have them test it. if the battery is good your alternator is gone. that will solve the battery light.

as for the surging idle does it happen when its colr or warm?

cold it could be the IACV warm you might have a vaccum leak or just need to reset the ECU.
