Jumping Tach!
I am having some problems with my distributor. Last week my tach started to jump back and forth the symptoms of a bad igniter, so I replace the igniter and the problem remains. While IM accelerating the tach moves slightly, but under WOT it pegs quickly to 8K. Could it be anything else that I have missed? I checked all my connections. I notice that when I turn the key to the acc spot the tach moves to 1k. IM stumped here.
Common problem on Hondas.
Loose or corroded main ground connector at thermostat housing and/ OR Loose or corroded connections at the coil and /or ignitor inside the dizzy.
Clean, tighten, crimp and Di-electric grease all the above.

Yeah, Permatex makes it. They sell it at pep boys. It's not absolutely neccasary, if you do the the first 3 things, though.

WhiteEG6. Found it/fixed it man, exact problem as you.
I cleaned/dremeled ground plate and grounds at tranny/chassis.
Tighted up connectors at ignitor(Would have rather soldered, but don't have tool)
Brushed up all connectors at ignitor and coil.
This all helped, thanks to people's posts. Hopefully problem does not arise again till i get my new motor in

Open the distributor and make sure that all of your connections are really tight. It seems that if they are even the slightest bit loose it will cause the tach to jump. Also make sure to check the back of the speedo. It's possible that a wire could have come loose in there also.
