Default Jumping/checking base ignition timing on Pre-OBD ecu

I've been wondering what happens to the Ignition timing map when you "jump" the ignition timing connector?? Will the timing become a steady "base" timing thru the whole rpm band?? Or will the car run normal anyways?? All OBD-0 ecu experts, please chime in, and let me know what you guys know. Thanks...
