Default JDM Type-R trans looking to fit a LS 5th gear

need to know if you can install a 5th gear into a type-r tranny. have to drive a good distance to work now and need the lower revs on the road. i don't even know if doing this will make a differance. i don't whant to swap out the trany to a ls unless I must. thanks.
